Every Club Faces the Same Two Challenges

Every Club Needs More Revenue

Traditional fundraisers work — until they don't. Trivia nights peter out. Raffles plateau. Sausage sizzles have a ceiling. You need reliable, recurring revenue that doesn't require your committee to become professional event planners. The math is simple: more funding means better coaches, better equipment, and less financial stress.

Good People Burning Out

Your volunteers didn't sign up to be accountants. But every week, the same people sell the tickets, count the cash, and bank the money. Week in, week out. Giving up their weekends. Giving up their time. Eventually, good people burn out. And when they do, the club scrambles to find someone else willing to do the jobs nobody wants.

The Fundraiser That Runs Itself

BuyDoubles is a Season Pass subscription. Supporters pay $10/week for 27 weeks and get entered into every draw automatically. No boxes of doubles to distribute. No cash to handle. No Sunday afternoons counting money. Just sustainable revenue flowing into your club while your volunteers actually enjoy match day.

208 Draws. One Subscription.

204 NRL Regular Season Games
3 State of Origin Games
1 NRL Grand Final
= 208 chances to win

Your supporters aren't buying a weekly lottery ticket — they're buying a Season Pass. Every NRL game, every State of Origin, plus the Grand Final. Set once, entered automatically, every single week.

For Clubs

169 subscribers × $10/week × 27 weeks = $45,630 total revenue
$22,815 in prizes (50%)
$22,815 to the club (50%)

For Supporters

$10/week to pool + $0.99 platform fee + processing fee = approx. $11.57/week total

Your supporters pay $11.57/week. The club receives the full $10. No hidden fees.

What Can You Win?

  • Regular season game: win $84.50 (204 chances per season)
  • State of Origin game: win $1,267.50 (3 chances per season)
  • Grand Final: win $1,774.50

Total prize pool: $22,815 (assumes 169 fully paid subscribers)

Built By Someone Who's Been There

Jason Shannon never planned to run a rugby league club — he wasn't even interested in the sport. A Melbourne native, he moved to Queensland and after being there a while, met his partner Zoe. Her oldest son Jayden had been playing rugby league since he was tiny.

That's what got Jason to the sideline — watching Jayden play. Then came committee work. Then, unexpectedly, club president of a Queensland community rugby league club after a crisis thrust him into the role.

Despite admitting he "didn't know enough about rugby league to run a club," Jason took the position when no one else would. Year one was survival — shoestring budget, inherited coaches, modest results. But he focused on what he knew: sales and marketing. He grew club sponsorship significantly. More money meant better coaches, better equipment, and less stress on volunteers.

"More money equals more options. It's that simple."
— Jason Shannon, Founder

But success revealed a bigger truth. Every club he met faced the same two problems: funding and volunteers. The core group was always exhausted. The same fundraisers got recycled year after year.

The breakthrough came from watching a meticulous life member run traditional doubles for the playing group. Every week, he'd date-stamp all the tickets, sort them into bundles, hand them out at training, collect the cash, and give away the prizes. He raised $5,000-$6,000 a year through sheer dedication — an amazing effort that most people never saw. It worked, but it was time-consuming. "Surely we can do this better," Jason thought. "Surely we can do this online."

So he built it himself. BuyDoubles is a digital platform that replaces traditional doubles with automated weekly subscriptions. The entire process is automated — no box to sell each week, no cash handling, no volunteer hours lost to admin work. Just sustainable funding flowing into your club every week while your volunteers focus on what actually matters: coaching the kids and building the community.

Today, Jason personally onboards every club during early access. You get direct access to him, not a help desk. He's been in those committee meetings. He's counted the cash at midnight on a Saturday. He gets it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a football double?

Football doubles is a fundraising game that's been a staple of community rugby league for decades. You pick a combination of two jersey numbers — one from the home team and one from the away team. If the first try scorers in the match are wearing your numbers, you win. It's determined entirely by what happens on the field — no random draw, no luck of the draw, just real footy. BuyDoubles takes this traditional game and moves it online, automating the whole process so clubs don't need volunteers to sell, collect, and manage it every week.

What exactly is BuyDoubles and how does it work?

BuyDoubles is traditional football doubles digitised and wrapped in a subscription model. Instead of buying a box of doubles each week, your supporters subscribe once and make 27 small weekly payments. They're automatically entered into every draw — 208 chances to win from Round 1 through to the NRL Grand Final. Same game everyone knows and loves, none of the weekly admin. Clubs can earn up to $22,000+ in additional funding per season.

Does it cost my club anything to set up or run?

No upfront costs. We guide you through setup and can even help sell your 169 spots through paid Facebook and Instagram ads, email and SMS campaigns. Our goal is to reduce the burden on clubs — we aim to be as streamlined, simple, and time-friendly as possible.

How does our club actually make $22,000+?

The math: 169 subscribers × $10/week × 27 weeks = $45,630 total pool. That's split 50/50 — half in prizes, half to your club. The $22,000+ figure assumes all 169 spots are filled for the full season.

What happens if we don't sell all 169 spots?

If you don't fill all spots, the prize pool is reduced — but your club is protected. Unsold spots become "club tickets." If the winning combination lands on a club ticket, you don't pay out anything. You'll still make money, and the 50/50 split means you're never paying out more than half of what's in the pool.

How much work is this for our committee?

Very little. We handle setup, can run paid ads to help sell your 169 spots, and manage all the platform administration. Once subscribers are onboard, everything runs automatically. After each round, we notify winners by SMS that they've won and let them know the club will be in touch to arrange payment. You'll receive a round summary report via your club dashboard and email with the winner's details and contact information. All you do is reach out to the winner and arrange payment from your club's bank account. The money is already sitting there ready to go.

How do winners get paid?

The club pays winners directly from their own bank account. Season Pass revenue is collected through our secure payment platform and transferred directly to your club's nominated bank account each week. BuyDoubles never holds the prize pool — when it's time to pay winners, the funds are already in your account. After each round, we send you a summary with the winner's details and contact information. You reach out, get their bank details, and pay them. That's it.

Is this legal? Do we need a gaming license?

Yes, it's legal. Football doubles is a specifically named and regulated game type under Australian state charitable gaming legislation, including the NSW Community Gaming Act 2018 and the QLD Charitable and Non-Profit Gaming Act 1999. All draws on BuyDoubles fall within permit-free thresholds in every state we operate in, which means no gaming permit or licence is required. Your club does need to be an eligible entity — typically an incorporated not-for-profit community sporting club registered with your state authority. For the full regulatory breakdown, including state-by-state thresholds and the legislation we operate under, visit our Compliance page.

Do supporters need to be 18+?

Yes. All subscribers must confirm they are 18 years or older before purchasing. This is a requirement under Australian state charitable gaming legislation. Subscribers confirm their age at checkout, and clubs — who know their community and supporters personally — provide an additional layer of oversight. If a club becomes aware of a subscriber who is under 18, the account is suspended and any active subscriptions are cancelled.

Which states can participate?

BuyDoubles is currently active in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory, and the Australian Capital Territory. Queensland is pending approval from the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation. Victoria and Western Australia are not available due to current state legislation. Both club registrations and ticket purchases from ineligible states are blocked at the platform level using postcode verification. For the full state-by-state breakdown including the legislation and permit-free thresholds, visit our Compliance page.

What if a supporter wants to cancel mid-season?

We'd encourage them not to — cancelling only reduces the prize pool for everyone else. We run a waitlist, so there may be someone ready to take their spot. But if they cancel, the prize pool decreases for the remainder of the season.

What if supporters don't want to commit to 27 weeks?

Then this isn't the right fit for them, and they should find another way to support the club. We make sure everyone understands it's a 27-week commitment before signing up. That said — 208 chances to win from Round 1 to the Grand Final is plenty of reason to stay involved.

How do I know this is legitimate?

Fair question. Jason Shannon (the founder) has put his name, face, LinkedIn, and phone number out there — you can verify exactly who you're dealing with. Your club's revenue flows through PCI-DSS compliant payment infrastructure directly to your club's bank account — it never sits with BuyDoubles. The platform complies with charitable gaming legislation in every state and territory we operate in. For the full details, visit our Compliance page, where you can see the legislation, our regulatory framework, and how we verify every club. And if you still have questions, call Jason directly. He's happy to chat.
